In the spirit of full disclosure, I would call myself an avacadoholic. My day seems almost empty without one. While they’re typically a savory treat on my plate, I’m never one to shy away from a twist on the usual, especially when that so-called twist involves chocolate. Count me in.
Let's all forget about putting on our sweatpants with an elastic waistband this weekend and take a dip into a healthy chocolate pudding for a change.
Chovocado Pudding
vegan, gluten-free
1 ripe avocado
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/4 cup raw agave nectar
1/4 cup almond milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Peel and quarter a ripe avocado.
- Put all the ingredients in your beloved Magic Bullet (or a blender/hand mixer) and blend until smooth.
- Serve and enjoy!
*This recipe is perfect for two servings. Or perfect for one person with their feet propped up on the couch watching Nip Tuck re-runs.

What a great pudding and I love that the ingredients are things that I normally have on hand!
This sounds amazing. I'm always looking for dessert ideas to make for a friend who doesn't do wheat or dairy. This is perfect! I'm "pinning" it for future reference. Thanks!

Tasty Appetite
Holy Cow! That looks amazing!
I would never even know that there's avocado just by looking at it. It looks like the ultra creamiest chocolatiest pudding ever. I have a sweet treat linky party going on at my blog till Monday night and I'd love it if you'd come by and link your pudding up. http://sweet-as-sugar-cookies.blogspot.com/2011/06/sweets-for-saturday-21.html
How innovative this is! I will try this recipe. Thanks!
This pudding is delicious! Best I have had (even of those w/o avocado). I searched for this recipe for my 4 year old who just had her tonsils out and can only tolerate soft foods right now. She only wants ice cream but I wanted more substance for her. Thanks!
a question...
Since when one makes guacamole, the avocado goes black on you if you don't add lemon or lime... do you have to eat this right away? Can it keep for a bit? A day? You will probably insist it won't last that long but I would love to know.
Thanks!
an answer...
The avocado may turn ugly colors without the acidity of lemon or lime on it's own, but that doesn't mean it goes bad. It just looks pretty gross. Same goes with the pudding; Though with the cocoa powder, it's dark and chocolaty anyway.
That means- YES! By all means, keep it (in a sealed container) in the fridge for a couple days. It will be perfectly fine! :)
Hope that helps!!
Did you use raw cocoa powder or regular? I tried a recipe very similar to this. I used raw cacao. I liked it, but my friends didn't. Wondering if non-raw cocoa would have been a little better. I'll try that next time.
I was sooooooo excited to make this for my 19 month old who is allergic to milk....he's not a fan, which was disappointing to me...I, however, greatly enjoyed it, and think it's a great treat for moi!
I also put some nutmeg in it. Yummy!
This is an awesome recipe!! Thanks for sharing. I tried it this afternoon and loved it. I will definitely pass this on.
Thank you SO MUCH for this recipe. I made it for myself, and for several holiday parties for my family and friends. Everyone loved it (not a lick left in the serving bowl) and begged me for the recipe, so I've been sending everyone this link! It is the tastiest pudding I've ever had.
Creamiest chocolate pudding ever!
Question: How would this work for type 1 Diabetics?
This is gooood! I used maple syrup instead of agave nectar though. It made enough for me and my 3 yr old daughter. Very chocolate-y and smooth. Great recipe to have on hand at all times ;)
I wonder, could you substitute agave for honey??!! I'm right there with you on the Avacado addictions! mmmm
I tried this w/3 avocados and double everything else and a dash of almond extract since I had no vanilla...yummy gimme some!
This looks yummy and I just happen to have bought some avocados today. :D
Hi, this looks a great recipe and one that I would love to try, however almond milk doesn't seem to be so readily available to me in the UK. Are there any alternatives I could use for this at all? thanks a lot, Laura x
@wifemum ANY non-dairy milk should work just fine! :) Or heck, if you're not worried about non-dairy, regular milk would work perfectly, too! xoxo
I just made this and it was DELICIOUS!!!
One of the best recipes I've ever made. With my first taste, I just said "Oh,my" and sat down. What a chocolate fix!!
I was a bit skeptical at first but since I am always looking for healthier treats for my kids I gave it a try. I used maple syrup and dairy milk since that is what I had and OH MY! My 4 year old said it was the best chocolate pudding he has ever had and dipped strawberries in and gobbled it all up. My 2 year old ate a bit but she didn't love it as much as we did. Thanks for a great recipe.
I'm thrilled that people share the love for this pudding!! Thanks for such wonderful feedback! xoxo
The texture is great, but 1/4c of cocoa powder was way too much for me, even as a bittersweet/dark chocolate fan. It unfortunately tasted bitter. Next time I'll halve the cocoa powder.
Can you use rice milk instead of almond milk?
I just made this pudding... yummy! I made a double batch to use up my avacado, but I'm a little nervous about keeping it in the fridge for a few days. Do you think it will go bad?
Yayyyy-- you have officially combined two of my favorite things! This pudding tastes so delicious, and the texture is incredible! I have a serious chocolate addiction (which is probably where these extra lbs came from.. yikes!), so thank you for making something so yummy, that I dont have to feel guilty about eating!! :):)

um I just made this and I'm in heaven. goodbye. :)
I just made this for me and my husband-fantastic! My hubby, who will NOT eat guacamole, was astounded that it was so good. Thanks for sharing!
Just made this with a few alterations for what I had on hand (skim milk, honey) and pretty much doubled the recipe. Delicious, Martha! I mean, Jess! ;)
does this need refrigeration? I want to make this to take somewhere that would be in room-temp places for 2 hours...
I make an awesome smoothie with 1-2 cups chocolate soy milk, 1/2 an avocado, 1 banana, and 1 tbs honey (and of course ice). Its fantastic!
this is ridiculously good! thank you! so glad to find your site! I'll be back :)
I substituted a banana for the agave and coconut cream for the almond milk. Yum!
Looks Good and Healthy
I just wanted to let you know, I have just recently turned vegan and this dessert was AMAZING!!! It hit the spot to fulfill my sweet tooth.
First I want to say this recipe was delicious!!! Now I have a question is there any other subs for the avocado? I would love to make this all the time however where we are the price has shot up. I will make this again however was wondering if there was any others you have tried.
Thank you
Shara
Question: can I use Water in place of the almond Milk? my son has severe allergies to all nuts, milks
thanks
I did try it but unfortunately I didn't really check if the avocados were ripe totally yet lmao. So it was kinda bitter tasting. I had them with strawberries and it was good :)
I just tried this reciepe. It was actually pretty good but the amount of agave is too much. I'd half it. And I added 1/4 cup melted dark Choc
I agree with Cynthia...I'm going to use less agave next time.
Inhaled this and didn't share. No guilt here! Fabulous - thank you!!
The first 2 times I made this it was AWESOME! NOBODY could have guessed at the avocado in it, and I found I didn't need quite as much sweetener. The next time I made it the avocado was substantially larger and I didn't adjust the other ingredients accordingly, so it wasn't quite as good, but now I know and can't wait for my new avocados to ripen! Kudos to you for this wonderful recipe -- and though I let my roomie in on the secret I never did tell my mom what was in it (and never will or she'd refuse to eat it again, never mind that she loved it)!
Didn't know it was possible. I'm gonna faint if I don't make some tonight!
Thanks for this! Have made it a few times now and it's been a hit every time. Wasn't convinced by the first batch, but found that the earthiness of the avo disappeared when I left it (covered) in the fridge overnight - so that's how I do it all the time now!
Trying to only use fruit to sweeten things. What would you suggest? Pineapple? Mango?Banana?
The consistency of the pudding is awesome, but I'm not a fan of the taste. Its also extremely filling. I need another ingredient to replace the avocado!
I was a believer when my "taste testers" 9, 6, and 3, said it was great and wanted to eat my serving. I would say though that it's best to eat half and save or share half. It is very filling and over 600 calories if you eat the whole thing. Wonderful recipie though, and I never liked avacados before this!
Thanks for this yummy pudding recipe! Delicious~ just got through eating a bowl. My 16 year old anti veggie just took a bite, and he said it was good too!
this was so delicious! i used honey rather than agave because i didn't have enough, and i used soy milk instead of almond, and it tasted great! no sign of avocado, my parents demolished it :)
I make a lot of avocado puree and freeze it for recipes, how many cups of avocado puree would you use for this recipe?
Used Honey instead of Agave and it was way to sweet next time I will use 1/8 of a cup.
